Description: David Copperfield (Wordsworth Classics) is considered as one of the best works of author Charles Dickens and was one of his personal favorites as well. The novel is autobiographical and talks about David Copperfield's life from his childhood to the time when he was well - settled, mature and content in life. Dickens had to leave school to work in a factory due to his father's imprisonment and hence, had a very tough childhood. Dickens has included his personal experiences into this novel and hence, it reflects a little bit of Dickens's own life. The book talks about how David was born a fatherless child and how he was raised by his mother and housemaid, Peggotty. David's life becomes difficult from the age of seven when his mother marries a man named Edward Murdstone, following which, Edward's sister moves in with them too. David is sent away to boarding school by his rude stepfather and his plight continues, having to now deal with the ruthless headmaster at school. David comes back to Salem to know that his mother has given birth to a baby boy, but both the baby and the mother die shortly after David comes back. He is then sent to work for a wine merchant in London. David runs away to Dover to find his only relative, his great - aunt Betsy. The book then proceeds on to talk about David's life and the different phases he goes through, including love relationships, marriage, friendship and finance. This version of David Copperfield is written by Charles Dickens and Adrienne de Gavin. Dr. Keith Carabine is the series editor, while Hablot Knight Browne is the illustrator.
